Candida Concept

Candida focuses on the relationship between Candida, Morrell, and Marchbanks. In the beginning of the show, there is an absence of a loving relationship between the married couple. While there was passion in the early stages of the marriage, it is obvious that the warmth has faded. At the beginning of the show, cool light will pervade the space to simulate a bland atmosphere that has resulted from the lackluster passion found in the relationship.

Candida makes a ploy to reinvigorate her marriage, and brings a young gentleman, Marchbanks, into the picture. Her plan is successful as Morrell grows jealous of what Marchbanks represents. As the play progresses the color palette transfers from the cool palette (seen above) to a warm house (seen below) harkening back to the passion that originated in the marriage between Candida and Morrell.

In addition to the color shift evident in the show to illustrate the progression of the relationship, the environment also deserves consideration. A large bay window gives the audience a glimpse into the outside world. A progression of day is needed to help convey the story and contribute to the authenticity of realism inherent in the script.
