A Chorus Line

Concept

The concept behind A Chorus Line centers around the exploration of the actor's psyche. The show frequently delves into asides where performers reveal what's really going on inside their head. Lighting accents these moments through dramatic shifts in color, texture, and focus.

The above images serve as the starting point for the execution of the conceptual approach to A Chorus Line. The images represent what we see the actors experience versus what their emotional state is during the audition process.

The image (above, left) shows a cool white wash devoid of texture and specific focus. This image serves as a baseline for the audition location.

The image (above, right) shows a saturate color range that has texture. Something I wanted to do with this show was take an approach with texture that is seldom taken with the production.

Images below illustrate the color palette, texture, and focus that are used to show what performers experience during an audition for a show.
